Past Activities: January

We list some of the events the committees hosted during the month of January:

January TWOTMD

In January, H.V. Ockham under DriCie did an experiment: they hosted a Third-Wednesday-Of-The-Month-Drink (or TWOTMD). This brilliantly named drink was themed around everyone’s new-year’s resolutions of 2024. Even though I wrote down my resolutions on paper during the drink, this was not really done in droves. The vibes however were good with some active members getting back from studying abroad for half a year. Even though lots of people were there, I do not know if the TWOTMD will ever return again.

Introduction Activity

H.V. Ockham under ACCIE introduced the new Honours cohort via an introduction activity. During this activity, we send the new ambitious students to solve a murder mystery on what happened to the treasurer of the 15th board, Dante. They completed puzzles and collected hints towards Dante’s wearabouts. Quite some active members from outside ACCIE came to help organize the event, which was cool. Personally, I helped with the puzzle: “Ricochet Robots” (you can see the rules at https://images-cdn.zmangames.com/us-east-1/filer_public/c0/b4/c0b482f1-ad3e-4e5d-ae48-0c11aa7c317a/en-ricochet_robot-rules.pdf) where we collectively tried to find the route with the lowest number of turns. This means you need to be creative and consider even the most obnoxious options. It was interesting to see the different thought processes and ideas between all the different people. The teamwork and communication of different ideas from students from different backgrounds and interests was definitely promising.  The event generally was well received and ran relatively smoothly, although it was unfortunate nobody solved all the puzzles and the mystery shall remain unsolved to this day. (who known what will happen in the future ;))

(No) Resits Drink

Along with this introduction, H.V. Ockham under DriCie hosted the (no) resits drink on the same day and happily invited the new Honours students to meet the current board and some of the active members of H.V. Ockham. While a special room was booked for people with resits to study, the focus was clearly more on people with no resits having a drink, which is what I like to see and expected from Honours students. It is also important to note that DriCie reached their pinnacle achievement of this academic year: they got the microphone working. The drink thus transitioned into an unofficial karaOcke drink. This event was very well attented and it looks everyone was having a good time.

Introduction Drink

H.V. Ockham under DriCie also hosted a second intro drink the week after the intro activity. This drink might hold the record of the shortest official drink in Ockham history (would be fun if someone could verify this) at 1.5 hours in duration. It was clear to new members and even existing active members that the amount of drinks organized by DriCie has reached a tipping point. DriCie is aware of this and swears to focus more on quality rather than quantity in the future. Additionally, during these two drinks, the new SMOTMD banner was made and approved.

Although not strictly an Ockham event, I would also like to shortly mention that the Business Days Twente have begun, having hosted their lustrum event and annual lunch lecture during the beginning of February.
